Meeting New People: A Key Skill to Have

So, how do you find the best Network Marketing prospects? In my last post, I wrote about how you become the 5 people who you associate with the most. To be highly successful in business and life, you must build yourself and “A-Team”.

I also mentioned how most of the top earners say that the bulk of their income is produced by 4 or 5 driven leaders in their organisation.

Where would you find the best people for your MLM business? A key skill in this profession is your ability to meet new people, and build friendships with them. Obviously you would want to meet people who think like you do – people who care about their future and the people close to them.

This is a hugely rewarding and fun, but intimidating skill that you have to be willing to learn.

Now, you can meet a lot of new people at a pub on a Friday night, but it’s probably not the best environment to meet people who’ll be good candidates for your business.

Get your FREE MLM success manual here.

If you didn’t know this already, pay close attention… Network Marketing is a teaching and mentoring business. Perpetual wealth is created in teaching and mentoring people on how to do the business.

So therefore, the people who do best in this profession are NOT people who can sell well. The people who do best in Network Marketing are those who have a passion for teaching.

Teachers, Martial Arts instructors, Yoga masters, driving school instructors, public speakers, any professional who engages in teaching others how to do something are great people for your business.

Moreover, the best teachers are also the best students. So people who are always looking to expand their knowledge are also great candidates for your business. They can be found in Martial Arts and Yoga classes, after hours community lectures, seminars, Toastmasters, foreign language courses, etc, etc.

There’s a right way to meet people, and there’s a wrong way to meet people. The wrong way is to crash these community classes and be an obnoxious Multi-Level Moron, pitching everyone about your opportunity. The right way is to be an active member of these communities and through that, develop true friendships.

So go forth and get to know some of the best Network Marketing prospects for your business.

To your MLM success,

Wayne Wu

Hi Wayne,

I like your out-of-the box approach. While I have been aware of the fact that MLM is a teaching and mentoring business, I haven’t seen analogy between our business and, for example, martial arts. But it’s so true: Great teachers are also great students. It’s important for a student to listen, just like it is for a teacher and mentor.

Thanks for sharing your insights.

Take care

The fact that Network Marketing is a teaching and mentoring business is something every network marketer needs to know and fully understand.

Hi Wayne,

Solid advice. You’re right, real network marketers are teachers. They are all about teaching people how to build their businesses and showing them the right strategies to implement. Love the analogy.

Thanks for sharing your insights, Wayne.

All the best,

Those who love to teach, regardless of if they have a teaching qualification or not, are the ones who become multi-millionaires in our profession.

You are right about that, best teachers are best students too. It is a matter of concentration and dedication to do whatever job you wanted to do. The most important things is that you have to do the best you can in every task you wanted to achieve may it be network marketing or teaching.

Absolutely right. The right attitude to have is to do everything at your hand to the best of your abilities.

Hi Wayne!

Passion for teaching. That’s what we all have here and it is this same passion that spurs us to write these blogposts and impart whatever knowledge that we have to improve the lives of others.

And I am so glad to be learning and teaching at the same time!

Good affirmation. Thanks for sharing this insight.

Hey Wayne,

Very true… Being able to teach and guide others to reproduce or better your results is a key part of this business.

The other dimension to most of those groups you mention which makes them great places to be look for potential team members is that they are places where people go to grow, develop and improve themselves, which is an essential underlying element of success in this industry.

Thanks for sharing these good ideas Wayne,

Wayne,

So true.

I thought it would be a good idea to get involved with my local Chamber of Commerce.

After a year and a half, I am now on the Chamber Executive Board. I have volunteered to be part of 2 committees.

It would give me a chance to interact more and meet other people.

The most I do is offer advice, new ideas and support. This help us have one of our most productive meeting.

Hi Wayne,

Interestingly enough there is a woman in our company who was a teacher and has focused only on sponsoring teachers. She has one of the largest teams of top income earners in the company! :)

I think a lot of people look for “leaders” like professional sales people, Realtors, etc. and while this business can be a fit for them, your idea of looking for people who teach for a living in some form or another is brilliant!

Great job,

Good stuff. I’m not just talking about qualified teachers here, but people who have a passion for teaching in general. In one way or another, we all have that passion within us. We just need to draw it out, and network marketing is the perfect place for that.

Well said Wayne! It all makes sense. If this is a teaching business then it would make sense that the perfect candidates are those that like to teach.

This shows the difference between sponsoring and recruiting. Most salespeople are trained to have a recruiting mindset, meaning they recruit someone in the business and then move on to the next person.

Teachers on the other hand are opposite. The really care that you learn something and they are the ones that are most likely to sponsor more people into the business. So when you sponsor, you show people how to become successful.

Thanks for sharing!
Have a great weekend!

Hi Wayne,

I agree that for building a team in Network Marketing, finding those who can TEACH is critical to the overall success of the team.

For faster cash flow though, having those who are great at selling is wonderful. I really think it takes some of each.

Thank you for your insights. Very valuable to know that we’re also looking for teachers.

Targeting faster cash flow means you’re heading for small business results. Rock stars teach and build a culture – especially a culture of duplication.

Hi Wayne,

There are so many people that need to read this post, it is very true and could help a great deal of people. Since you brought up public speakers of the sort, I was even watching the local news and thought that the weather lady would be successful in a direct sales or MLM business.

There are so many great people out there and you are right the ones that take the extra time and actually teach people how to do something are going to be much more successful.

It makes since – that we must teach others. Teaching someone goes so much further than pitching or making a sale. I have found that some of the greatest network marketers are teachers of information, they share and truly care about what you learn and implement to succeed in your business. I don’t feel that I am being “sold” something which thus – generates a great level of trust and a lasting relationship that goes beyond you our “product”.

Great point Nicole and thanks for sharing. When you passionately educate others about something, there’s just no “sales” objection to it – that’s the way we need to think. We’re educators of building wealth through building people.

Hey Wayne, I like to surround myself with leaders, very important, but your idea of looking for teachers is a an important part of networking too. Your point about teachers being good students is so true.

One of the things that helps me, an a home business owner is getting to off site seminars and workshops. It’s a little scary at first but ideal for connecting with teachers, colleagues and just making a few friends.
