Here are some truths to consider: Network marketing is NOT a numbers game. It’s NOT a recruiting business. It IS a relationships business. It IS a teaching and mentoring business.
It just happens that great products are sold direct to the end consumer. That is how wealth is translated into money. But the true wealth is built on relationships. Relationships are the glue that hold people, and therefore the business, together.
So how do you create strong relationships in network marketing? Through coaching and mentoring!
What makes network marketing such an enlightened industry is the development of leaders, who otherwise would not be, through coaching and mentoring.
It is truly about people helping others live their dreams, and in doing so, being rewarded with the ability to live one’s own. To reach your goals, you have a responsibility to coach and mentor others.
When you begin to do this, you become a leader, regardless of what you have achieved.
To give yourself the best chance of reaching your goals in network marketing, you must find coaches and mentors who have achieved that level of success and befriend them. You must at least have a coach who you can call upon everyday, and who will keep you accountable.
If you can’t find a mentor, find a leader in the industry who you can emulate and learn as much as you can about what they did to get to where they’ve got. However, there is no substitute for personal mentoring.
Recently, Eric Worre interviewed Mark Yarnell on NetworkMarketingPro.com. Mark Yarnell stated that the number one key to his success was because he worked with the guidance of successful mentors from a very early stage of his career. His advice is to track upline until you find someone who is willing to work with you until you’re successful.
A good mentor is someone who is accessible, regardless of their level of success. A good mentor is humble, because they never forget their grassroots beginnings.
A good mentor is NOT someone who has achieved some “cult status” through mass undue edification, and as a result has a massively inflated ego and unfathomable arrogance.
Unfortunately, there are many companies in this industry, as do all industries, who over edify their top earners. They are untouchable unless you are at their level. They expect you to bask in their glory.
I’ll say this… if you’re in a company that breeds this culture of worshiping “cult” leaders, then it’s a very hard uphill battle for you to achieve their level of success.
Network marketing is a team sport. No one has ever got to the top on their own. It takes a team of people working with You toward a common vision. Every person plays a key role, because this business is built on the accumulated efforts of every last person. A true leader will never forget that.
If you’re hungry for success, reach out to someone who is willing to help you.
To your MLM success,
Wayne Wu

Thanks for that, Kareem
Aint this the truth Wayne. It’s very difficult to reach the top by yourself. It takes a great network of people and a great mentor or coach to help you along the way in order to get to the point where you want to be. Thanks for sharing this

It isn’t easy Sherman, that’s for sure. True leaders will always acknowledge those who helped them along the way.
Hey Wayne,
You really lay it out for people with this post, it is so true, it is about building relationships and taking yourself to the next level but also bring your team along with you. Each individual needs to focus more on helping others which in turn helps more people obtain their wishes and desires.
Thank you for the great post !
Thanks Robert. This chain reaction of people helping people is what makes network marketing a very special profession.
Hi Wayne,
it’s all about devlopping leadership. According to Napoleon Hill, every great leader used to be an intelligent follower. It’s impossible to skip that step of being a follower first, an intelligent follower.
Thanks for sharing your valuable insight, a great take.
Take care

Absolutely, positively correct Oliver. Every great leader was first a great follower.
So true, Wayne. You can’t succeed in network marketing without building relationships and teams.

Hey Wayne,
Awesome Job! I agree with you 100%.
What Oliver said is so true, “You must be a great follower before becoming a strong leader.”

Hi Wayne,
Great post….thanks for sharing.
T.E.A.M – Together Everyone Achieves More!! Your post really nailed it.
Network Marketing is really about teamwork. No matter how brilliant you are in all you do as an individual, if you do not coach and mentor your team to duplicate that success, you are basically setting yourself up to be the only one in that team who ‘finds success’. The irony of this is that it defeats the concept of leveraging the efforts of others.
I agree with you on finding a mentor who will be there for you. I would also add that you must be proactive as well. In as much as you will want a mentor to work with, you must also make an effort to find out what that mentor is doing that’s working for them, and try to do that, without copying everything they do exactly.
Just my thoughts.
Michael
Hey Michael,
That’s a really good insight you gave here. If you make it all about You, then it just becomes your JOB. Network marketing is all about leveraging the efforts of others as a collective to create something great.
And you’re absolutely right about being proactive, and do what they do, even if it feels uncomfortable at first.
Hi Wayne
yes far too many ‘leaders’ are arrogant and unapproachable. People like that never build true loyalty, so they can never truly retire and enjoy the fruits of residual income. They are constantly watching their back.

It’s really about humility I think. If you look at most of the world’s billionaires, they all look and act like normal people. They don’t wear expensive suits all the time. Sometimes in network marketing, success can go to one’s head.
Wayne,
It is funny how we are all students and we follow a blue print
of success and become that leader. This goes for the next
person and so on.
We continue to pass on these skills and one after another we
help develop new leaders which will help the next batch of
network marketers.
As long as we stay real, continue to learn and share, we
can help make our futures bright as can be.
Thanks for sharing.

Hi Wayne,
I love the teamwork approach to network marketing. My favorite part is that everyone has different strengths and gifts and by working as a team we can leverage everyone else. Network marketing is a team sport and just like in sports, you build a team that is balanced between people who are fast, people who are strong, people who can throw, people who can catch, etc. No one can play the game alone!
Great job…thank you for the awesome read!

hey Wayne,
I bet this is like a breath of fresh air for a lot of people who where wondering about how they can become a leader. They hear the, just become a leader phrase.
Now they know what to do.

Excellent post Wayne
I like the fact that you wrote that network marketing is a team sport.
I know some marketers that just recruit, recruit and recruit until they move on to another opportunity.
If they put the same effort into building leaders in their team then they would one day be able to retire on their recurring incomes.
Good stuff Wayne

The thing is, those guys who preach that it’s all a numbers game, who can get the most leads, they may make some money now, but their businesses are always falling apart because they don’t have the relationships. It’s all about them and their fancy technique. A leader knows it’s all about the team.
You are so right, Wayne – that’s why they call it “network” marketing, it’s ALL about relationships.

Great post, Wayne.
I just started reading a new book by tony Dungee called “The Mentor Leader: Secrets to Building People & Teams That Win Consistently”. I think you’d like it. He’s all about–to paraphrase you–winning teams being LEADERSHIP-driven, not MANAGEMENT-driven.
Thanks John. Sounds great. I’ll check it out.
I wish it could be that easy. Always I want to have someone who can coach me with my goals but I can’t find any. Fortunately, I have good books to rely on whenever my spirit is down. Books can be an excellent mentor too.
You always write good stuff, Wayne, just like this post.
Point to remember that a MLM Leader should be humble and friendly to its customers and colleagues.

Wayne, You are absolutely right, there is no way one can be successful without having a mentor who will lead one through the ladders of success, a mentor teaches one how to use the tools effectively…thanks for sharing this…it is quite inspiring.
