Whenever I hear someone say “This is a business of duplication”, I cringe, because it reminds me so much of my early days as a struggling newbie.
In my first MLM company, what I and everybody else was taught to duplicate was…
- Make a list of friends and family
- Invite them to a business preview meeting
- Follow up and give them a CD and other business tools
- Hope they get really excited…
That was the “duplicable” system they had in this company (an MLM giant, mind you). It just didn’t duplicate too well for most people involved.
I, for instance, had moved to Sydney for just over a year, leaving behind virtually all of my friends and family. I didn’t have any close friends in this big new town.
The closest people in my life were my colleagues, and as you can imagine, it’s never a good idea to blatantly tell them that you’re moonlighting with this network marketing business.
But time and again, we were told that this system worked, it was duplicable, we needed to believe in it, we need to be more positive, need to have a bigger dream.
Well, I suppose if you allowed yourself to be indoctrinated enough so that you had an unshakable belief in this way of doing business, you could eventually have some success with it.
But I wanted to achieve my income goals A LOT FASTER!…
I later realised that the big dogs were making an absolute killing indoctrinating their faithful distributors with their “system” of motivational CD’s and meetings.
This IS a business of duplication!
Where many “leaders” in network marketing go wrong is they want to create a set of instructions that are so simple that anybody can repeat them.
“Monkey See, Monkey Do” as they say.
What this often results in is a highly inflexible approach where uplines become downline managers, rather than leaders.
Instead of leading their team and creating unity, they are constantly monitoring activity to ensure everybody is complying with a simple set of instructions.
I’ve experienced that, and I’m sure many people in this industry has too…
It’s a recipe for disaster. It’s just like a J-O-B. If you want to create a politically charged environment within your team, there’s no better way to do it.
True duplication DOES NOT come from repeating a set of simple instructions.
Network marketing has always been about team work, about compounding the small consistent efforts of a group of people into something much bigger than the sum of its parts. And it always will be.
That is true leverage, true duplication.
Nobody has ever built a successful, strong network marketing organisation on their own. It takes a TEAM of people working together.
So what is a duplicable multi-level marketing system?
If you’ve built the business, a duplicable system is something that will keep your business growing when you decide to take a 6-month vacation, twice a year.
If you are new to the business, a duplicable system is where you have a coach, a mentor, and a team of people working with you to guarantee your success.
A proven duplicatable system must do these 2 things at the same time.
A duplicable system must…
- Teach YOU the skills you need to attract the right prospects
- Teach YOUR PROSPECTS the skills they need to attract the right people
- Help you BUILD RELATIONSHIPS with your prospects
- Support YOU in your own personal growth and business growth
- Allow you to MASTERMIND with others also using the system
A duplicatable system is much more than a set of instructions, or a bundle of tools. It’s a community of people working together to create success.

Hey Wayne,
You are definitely right on with this article.
The way I look at it is: the more skills I learn, the more valuable I become, the more money I make — there’s no other way around it!
Hey Derek,
There’s no way around it. You gotta learn the skills that people want, but are unwilling to learn themselves. That’s how you create massive value for others.

Hey Wayne,
Yeah, a duplicable system something anyone can plug into and roll with it. It’s not going to do everything, but it will take care of MOST of it. As long as the person is sharing the system with the new team members and guides them how to use it effectively, it can be extremely beneficial to everyone.
Well said Wayne…
Have a great weekend,

Hey Jerome,
You said it my friend. That’s exactly what a duplicable MLM training system must do.
You too, my friend… have a great weekend,
Wayne
Copying people sucks. It waste your time, get you nowhere and turns you in to an unofficial franchise for the person you are duplicating / copying.
Work with systems and all their elements.
Learn the skills and the methods.
Discover what you are good at then excel at it.
Find YOUR way in industry and success will be yours.
Teach your down and uplines to do the same.

Hey Dwayne,
Well said!
Don’t ever listen to anybody who says “If you want to be successful, you have to be just like me!”

Would it be a stretch to imagine that you have a system that meets all the criteria you mention in your post?
No, it wouldn’t be a stretch. But then again, there’s no system that’s perfect.
Is it the system that’s written about in “Success in 10 Steps”? I just started reading it.
