If you want to get ahead in this business, you’re best to talk to people who already believe in network marketing.
In my last post on attracting MLM leads, I briefly talked about target marketing and why your best prospects are other network marketers.
People who believe in network marketing are not going to question you, chastise you, or be negative toward you for building a home based business.
If anything, they are just as committed to their own personal development, and learning new skills to build their business. They are the right group of people for you to “hang out” with.
Actually, most of them are looking for answers on how to become more successful in their own business, and this is where you can get their attention.
More Leads Than You Can Poke A Stick At!…
If you knew nothing else about internet marketing, you can build your entire business by interacting with the right people on Facebook. I know people who have done just that.
There are countless network marketing groups to be found on Facebook.
Just about every company in this industry has a group or a fan page. Many industry superstars have groups and pages. There are heaps of generic MLM groups too.
They can literally be set up by anybody, and there are new network marketing groups are being established every day.
This is very cool because you have access to an endless supply of the most targeted multilevel marketing leads at your fingertips.
As I write this, the most generic Facebook network marketing group, simply called “Network Marketing”, has 7250 members. This number increases gradually day by day.
This is the only group that I’m currently working with, and it will probably remain that way for a long time to come, since I can’t possibly interact with every person in this group.
10 A Day Keeps Poverty Away…
I connect with 10 new people from this group every day. Of the 10 new people I connect with every day, about 4 or 5 will accept my request to be friends.
Why Only 10?…
You can connect with more people if you want, but I wouldn’t make more than 30 connections in a day. Facebook does monitor the activities of its users from time to time.
Facebook doesn’t want you to abuse their system for blatant self promotion. And that’s fair because it’s designed for you to connect with friends.
So any abnormal activity, like constantly making an unrealistic number of friends every day will cause your account to be flagged, and in extreme cases, banned.
And yes, I have a couple of friends who have had their accounts shutdown for excessive abuse.
Great… What next?…
Remember, Facebook is social networking website. It’s a place for friends to interact with each other, and that’s exactly what the vast majority of people use it for.
People do not expect to be pitched to.
It’s A Party On The Internet!…
See, meeting new people on Facebook is like meeting new people at a party. When you meet new people at a party, you’d introduce yourself and tell them a little about what you do and just chit chat.
You wouldn’t hand them a business card and say “Hey man, wanna make an extra $15,000 a month and be your own boss? Come join me in Jungle Juice!”
Actually, I’ve been to a party where some jerk came along and did just that. He was thrown out or left in a corner pretty quick!
There are quite a few network marketers on Facebook doing the same thing. I doubt they’re having much success.
What you want to do instead is build meaningful relationships with other network marketers and add value to their businesses.
A lot of them won’t be ready to join you straight away because they are already building a business in their own company. But if over time, you give them more support than their own upline, many of them will ask you about what you are doing.
In fact, you’ll find a lot of innocent people on Facebook who are trying to build a downline in an illegal pyramid scheme.
So if you have that relationship with them, they’ll be prime prospects for your business when they eventually find out that they’re in something illegitimate.
In order to add value to others, you must become a student of the network marketing industry. Learn to see through all the hyperbole and smoke and mirrors by understanding how it really works.
At Mentoring For Free, we will teach you how to do just that.

Hey Wayne
Facebook and social media in general is a great way of getting highly targeted traffic to you sites.
You hit the nail on the head with your “party” analogy.
Being SOCIAL is the key. Its not hard and it will help you in building great relationships which can turn into great business partnerships.
Dwayne
Hey Dwayne,
Yep, the key is to be SOCIAL, not PROMOTIONAL. They might not join your business today, but they will be your best business builders when they do.

Hey Wayne,
This is an excellent article on Facebook. Congratulations on being so consistent — 10 a day is harder than it sounds!
Hey Derek,
Yeah, actually 10 a day is not all that easy to maintain because you’re building up more and more contacts over time and you have to interact with them.
But like anything, consistency is key. Without consistency, you won’t achieve anything.
Cheers,
Wayne
Hey Wayne,
Love the detail you put into this. It is like a part and even though it’s online, they are still people on the other end of the connection.
You’re right about the approach and it’s just plain rude to throw a pitch out.
Great post!
Susanna
Hey Susanne,
You got it… they are all PEOPLE, not numbers. These people all have goals and dreams and if you can help them even in a small way get closer to their goals, that will build huge trust.
Take care,
Wayne
Hey wayne.
Party principle definitely makes more sense. You are right….more Online Network Marketers should look at it this way.
Some of the blatant self-promotion going on there is just too much at times. If you’re going to introduce yourself to someone you’ve never talked to or interacted with before, I don’t think the first thing you want to put in their faces
is your biz opp. It’s like asking a vegetarian through and through to try steak when you have no idea they are not out for steak.
Great post.
