In Chapter 10 of his famous book, “Think and Grow Rich”, Napoleon Hill writes about the Power of the Mastermind. A mastermind, is more than the sum of its parts. Every achievement of significance in the history of the world has been the fruition of a mastermind group, from the founding of the United States to Google’s dominance of the internet.
When I was a mechanical engineering student, I took a course in Thermodynamics. Thermodynamics is the study of energy and how it converts from one form to another, mainly from heat to mechanical work and vice versa. One of the units in this course was a brief study of nuclear energy.
The thing that fascinated me about this topic was how a nucleus of an atom, which consists of protons and neutrons bound together by a powerful force, has a different mass than all of the individual protons and neutrons that make it up. When the nucleus of an atom is split, this extra mass is converted into an enormous amount of energy via Einstein’s famous equation E = mc2.
When two or more people of the same mind come together, a powerful force is created just like the binding energy of an atomic nucleus. The group becomes greater than the sum of its parts. The force is constructive and very focused.
But conversely, when two people of opposite minds come together, a force is also also created. But the force is destructive. So destructive that, it causes arguments, disharmony, resistance and chaos.
The first step to the riches, to owning your life, is a burning desire, a desire that burns so brightly that almost nothing could snuff it out.
But that may not be enough if you are surrounded by people who have opposing values, who are going to do everything they can consciously or subconsciously to stop you. It’s like swimming against a rip, an ocean current, an impossible feat.
Associating with the like minded people and masterminding with them toward a common goal is like swimming with the current, a current that is flowing toward your chosen destination.
I’ve come to the realisation that to achieve my vision it is incredibly important to associate with like minded people, people who have values that are inline with my own. These are people who value their freedom, they value excellence, they value their relationships, they treasure their lives and they live in the moment.
I once shared a flat with a colleague who was my polar opposite. Our beliefs could not be further apart. We got along fine until we began sharing things that were more personal. So we stopped talking about the things we cared about. But I still felt uncomfortable being in that environment and I knew that I had to get away from his influence.
Success is a team effort. It’s not possible to achieve financial freedom on your own. Robert Kiyosaki talks about this all the time in his books and yet his words fall on deaf ears. It took me a while to realise this as I had long thought “if it is to be, it is up to me!”
A lone ant wanders aimlessly and can’t survive for long, but an army of ants with a purpose is UNSTOPPABLE.
In order to succeed, you must become part of a mastermind group with the wisdom of mentors who have achieved excellence in the way they preach.

Hey Wayne
Firstly, Think And Grow Rich is an amazing book. Every chapter is so valuable.
The Mastermind Alliance is essential to becoming successful. You can be successful alone but you will not be achieving all you can achieve.
All big businesses have a mastermind alliance, this is more than enough proof that this structure of combined minds works!
I am lucky enough to have a very good friend of mine who is very similar to me. We mastermind all the time. This has enabled us to do well in network marketing and there a lot more to come.
Great post
Dwayne
Hey Dwayne,
I read Think and Grow Rich, chapter by chapter every week and I still get something out of it every time. And that’s because further on, you’re at a different stage and the same words take on a new meaning.
Thanks for commenting, it’s a pleasure to see you here.

Hey Wayne,
I love this post. I am another left brained engineer (refractory) myself. I love the way you used physics in your explanation. I wrote a similar post not long ago, but got carried away and my wife said that only 3% of the population would be able to understand it all. So I completely simplified it and made it a post about keeping things simple.
In a way, my wife is my strongest mastermind partner. Though I have 7 others I work with daily. It is a great benefit to my business to have such like minded people in the fold.
I think you would fit in nicely with our group.
Hey Chris,
I liked being a student of engineering much more than working in the profession. And nuclear physics was one of my favorite areas of study.
I would love to be part of your mastermind group.
