The relationship you have with your MLM company should be one of mutual respect and support, right? After all, you can’t be successful without your company and they can’t be successful without you. On that basis you would expect your company to trust you to promote them ethically and you would trust them to provide you with the best products and marketing plan.

Some companies just don’t trust you. You can tell by the length of their policies and procedures that they don’t. The longer it is, the less they trust you and the less freedom you have as a distributor. It’s so ironic that this industry is all about freedom, yet some MLM policies and procedures are way more restrictive than employment contracts – beyond what you can imagine.

A fair network marketing company should have policies and procedures that are up to 10 to 15 pages long, according to Rod Cook of MLM Watchdog. Any longer than that and I would the question the motives of the company. I used to think that all MLM company policies and procedures were the same – just some legal flotsam where you would tick “I accept” when downloading some free software, but they’re not… [click to continue…]

If there’s one thing that we, as professional network marketers, should all do, it is to read is and understand our MLM company’s policies and procedures.

The policies and procedures manual will tell you everything you need to know about the integrity of your company’s management team and just how important YOU really are to them.

Unfortunately, alot of us skip this crucial step when we sign up to become distributors.

We skip it because our sign up was based on the trust and relationship we already have with an existing distributor. Or We skip it because we’re blinded by the excitement of being able to start our own business. Or We skip it because we’re not really expecting to be successful. Whatever the reason, this is a crucial step that has major consequences down the road. [click to continue…]

The entire philosophy of the network marketing industry is financial freedom – the ability for you to do whatever you want, wherever you want, whenever you want with whoever you want.

A network marketing business is supposed to be something that you work hard for a few years to build once, then you should be able to retire to enjoy the fruits of your labour and your business should still grow autonomously.

So with that in mind, I want to share with you a little experience I had. A while ago, I thought about joining a relatively new MLM company. I was attracted to the company’s business philosophy and its products. But thanks to training I had received from my mentor, I made a wise decision not to join this company – as good as its products were and all.

As I read the policies and procedures of this company – that is, the contract between you, the distributor, and the company – I realised that I could build this company, but I wouldn’t be able to retire, ever. That’s because the company had “ongoing” activity clauses in its contract. [click to continue…]

Efusjon, often spelt with a lower case ‘e’, launched in early 2009 with great hype and fanfare. The opportunity to make enormous amounts of money with efusjon was forcefully marketed on the social network, Facebook. Indeed, some members who used Facebook literally became efusjon extremists.

Well right now, efusjon is being sued in California for operating as an illegal pyramid scheme. The reason for that is the only way for distributors to make money in efusjon is to recruit people into the network.

See, a network marketing business model is sustainable because there is the constant movement of a quality product to the end consumer who’s happy to pay for it. A pyramid scheme is a non-sustainable business model that impoverishes 9 people for every 1 that gets rich.

This case demonstrates that just because a company has a tangible product and is using a multi-level marketing distribution channel to get it into the hands of consumers, it does NOT mean that the company is not running an illegal pyramid scheme. [click to continue…]

Have you ever been really bummed out by why some people are successful in your company and you’re not? Have you been annoyed by the fact that some newbie who joined just a few months ago has already reached his first pin level, while you haven’t even moved from zero after one year?

The worst thing you can do is to feel inadequate about it, because it’s not your fault. Over the last few posts, we’ve covered a lot about personality types and how to relate to each of them. In this article, I discuss how each personality performs in the various compensation plans.

Yep, that’s right, some personality types are just not “wired” to perform well in certain compensation plans. Here’s why… [click to continue…]

Strengths and Weaknesses of The Four ColoursIn relating to other people, it is important to understand their strengths and weaknesses. Again, a brief study of the personality types can give you a good overview of the general strengths and weaknesses of other people and importantly, yourself.

When you understand the strengths and weaknesses of each of the personality types, it’s then you can understand why the other person is the way they are, and you are the way you are. You can accept that it’s not their fault that they are “hard wired” a certain way, which empowers you to work with their strengths and weaknesses.

So without further ado, here are the general strengths and weaknesses of your dominate personality colour… [click to continue…]

Build Trust Fast by Changing Colours Like a ChameleonHave you ever felt really tense when you spoke to a new prospect for the first time? You know, when you sit down and go through the flip chart that you don’t even understand yourself and the whole experience feels about as good as giving blood?

That tension comes from a lack of trust. And the lack of trust is because you’re not relating to the prospect very well. But when you can relate well to the prospect, that tension loosens up very quickly. The good news is you can relate to the prospect within minutes of meeting him for the first time.

To do that, you have to match your style to the personality of the prospect. This is a skill called “mirroring”. Like all skills, it will take some time to master. But once mastered, will feel completely natural. Here’s how to do it… [click to continue…]

How to Become a Personality DetectiveThe first thing my mentor, Michael Dlouhy, taught me was this: Network Marketing is NOT a numbers game, it’s about building relationships with people. The more relationships you build over time, the more successful you’ll be.

People are not numbers. People are mothers, fathers, sons and daughters. People have dreams and aspirations. Thus relating to people and building a relationship with them over time comes first from understanding them.

Let’s say you’re meeting a new prospect for the first time at a coffee house. Literally within the first two minutes you can understand them and begin to build a long term relationship by identifying their dominant personality type. Just how do you do that? Easy. Shut up, listen and observe. Here’s how… [click to continue…]

The Binary Compensation PlanA binary compensation plan, as its name suggests is based on the number 2. A distributor in a company that operates a binary compensation plan can only build a downline consisting of two legs. A left leg and a right leg.

That’s correct, a binary compensation plan only allows you to have a maximum of two frontline distributors. Any more that you personally sponsor would have to placed underneath one of your two personally sponsored frontline distributors. This is another case of spillover.

The width restriction, however, is not as bad as it sounds as the average network marketer will only sponsor between 2 to 3 people in their entire career. The only way to build a binary is to go deep. Depth cultivates leadership and a team spirit. [click to continue…]

Have You Listened Just Enough?

in Understanding People

Have You Listened Just Enough?A lot of network marketers fail and lose their dreams to become successful and financially independent because of rejection, or the fear of rejection. The word “No” has taken more good people out of this industry then any other word in the English language!

The problem is traditionally, network marketers are trained to talk to everybody about their business. Everybody is fair game – the pastor, the police officer, the waitress. I was in a company that really hammered this home – “If you’re not showing 15 plans a month, then you’re not serious, this business is just a hobby!”

And this is why we, as network marketers, face so much rejection – because we’ve been trained to talk, not trained to listen. Unless you’re a well trained, super slick salesperson with inch thick skin, you can’t take that much rejection on a daily basis. [click to continue…]
